1. In order to participate in ![[info]](http://img.greatestjournal.com/community.gif) heartofthesword, you must first select an available character and send in your application to the moderators. For more information, see Application Process and Character List.
2. If your application is approved, you must create a GJ account for your character, so you can post to this community as them and use the journal itself for IC activities (write a diary, record "behind the scenes" actions, et cetera). Additionally, it is suggested that you add other players' IC journals to your journal's friends, so that everyone stays connected.
3. As of this moment, we will allow only one character per player. If we hit dire straits, this may change.
4. Posts made to heartofthesword must be in-character. All OOC posts to this community that are not mod-sanctioned will be deleted. If you post to your character journal OOC, please make sure that it is clearly noted as such. Excessive OOC posting (such as updates about your personal life, links to other RPGs, and so on) is frowned upon.
5. Don't spam, don't flame, and be civil to your fellow players OOC. In general, keep a level head and remember that roleplaying is for fun.
6. Do not give your character unreasonable abilities, and do not force the consequences of your character's action on other characters (i.e. when writing combat, say "character X aims at character Y's shoulder and fires," and not "character X shoots character Y in the shoulder"). Killing, maiming, or otherwise violating another person's character without mutual consent is not acceptible.
7. Ideally, all posts will be kept to a PG-13 rating. More mature content may be allowed as situations require, but no post may be in excess of an R rating. Gratuitous obscene content will be edited or deleted as per the moderators' discretion.
8. The continuity of heartofthesword is the Meiji era as per the Rurouni Kenshin manga, post-Kyoto arc and pre-Jinchuu arc (meaning, for example, that although Enishi is considered a playable character, he has not appeared yet and is not bound by what happens during the Jinchuu arc of the manga, although his character history according to canon is unchanged). All information and scenarios given in the manga up until the end of the Kyoto arc are to be considered RP canon, and when in doubt, manga trumps anime.
9. Actions that severely affect the continuity must be approved by the moderators prior to being posted. When in doubt, ask the moderators first.
10. Use realism if at all possible. Some deviations from realism are canon (such as Hiten Mitsurugi ryuu's absurd sword techniques), but when in doubt, go with what's more realistic.
11. Please stay in-character as guided by canon actions and history, but within that guideline, you are not restricted in regards to pairings.
12. The mod journal, ![[info]](http://img.greatestjournal.com/userinfo.gif) hiko_seijuro_x, will be used by the mods to post significant announcements and plot information. Any details regarding the continuity that are posted in this manner are to be taken as RP canon.

If you are interested in playing one of these available characters, please contact the moderators with a piece of writing from your desired character's point of view (500 to 1000 words), and describe (in a few paragraphs) how you intend to play the character.
Note that Heart of the Sword follows the manga continuity, and that it takes place post-Kyoto arc/pre-Jinchuu arc.
